The biological meaning of an animal, or human is a person who has grown. In the context of humans, the term "adult" may mean something related to legal or social concepts. An adult who is legally mature is, as opposed to "minors" or "non-adults are those who are of the majority age and thus considered to be independent, responsible and independent.
